If your child is Anxious - You aren't doing it 'wrong' you just need a steadier ground

Hi, I'm Charlotte, and I’m a child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapist.

It is my mission to help children, teenagers, and their families feel seen, heard, and understood - especially in the moments when life feels messy, overwhelming, or disconnected. I believe every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported as they navigate the challenges of growing up.

I believe in the power of curiosity, compassion, and connection - and in working with families to create lasting emotional change, not just quick fixes. If you're seeking a thoughtful, experienced therapist who will walk alongside your child (and you) with empathy and insight, you're in the right place.

Here are some FREE anxiety resources to get you started

We understand how challenging it can be when your children and teens feel anxious about going to school. That's why we've created the School Anxiety Toolkit - a collection of mini videos and resources you can access and download all at once, whenever you need them.

Welcome to The Thinking Pod

If you’re looking for therapy for your child or parent coaching, you’re in the right place.

What is child & adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy?

You’d have heard of counsellors, therapists, psychotherapists.

But the type of therapy I practice helps children and young people (up to the age of 25) with a range of psychological difficulties.

We focus on the child’s internal world, their relationships with others and their past experiences - we use all of this in seeking to understand the underlying causes of their problems.

How does it work?

I meet 1:1 with the child, initially for 6 sessions to assess if psychotherapy is the best option for the child.

On the 6th session I meet with the child and parents to plan ongoing psychotherapy sessions, or I will suggest another option and refer you on, if I’ve assessed that would be more appropriate for your child.

Think of an onion.

Our type of psychotherapy aims to get to the core of the onion to help the child and parents understand themselves better and feel more confident.

It’s often a long term intervention, using play and the relationship with the therapist to understand the internal conflicts the child is experiencing.

Working with the family/parents/carers is also part of the work, this will help the parents understand the child and facilitate working together to make changes.

What can psychoanalytic psychotherapy help with?

What is parent psychotherapy?

As a psychotherapist I offer parent psychotherapy.

This is a process where we think together about your child and work to alter and improve your parenting skills and strategies to build a stronger relationship and ultimately improve the child’s behaviour.

How does it work?

We set goals together of what it is you’d like to achieve, they will be realistic and reflect your parenting approach, identifying areas for improvement.

We meet regularly, to think through what is happening and your responses/thoughts.

Who am I?

I am a trained psychotherapist, completing a 7 year doctoral programme. I am registered with the Association of Child Psychotherapists and the British Psychotherapy Foundation

Why did I train to become a psychotherapist?

I experienced such debilitating anxiety between the ages of 11 - 13 that I just couldn't get to school.

This has been my driving force in helping parents help their children who are experiencing anxiety.

I have developed the Parent Insight Method that really works to make home life easier, less stressful and more contained.

Anxiety is not a child being stubborn, neither is it just a feeling that can be ignored! It is a communication that is telling us something important and by understanding what it's telling us we can help children manage it.
